The most Westerly Point on the British Mainland
Visit the iconic Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, standing proudly at the most westerly point of mainland Britain. Take the tour to the top of the lighthouse and admire views to the Small Isles. Enjoy a picnic or lunch in the cafe. Walk to nearby Bay MacNeil to discover a secluded beach with spectacular views of the lighthouse and beyond.
Explore the Coast
From the white sands of Sanna Bay to the hidden coves along Loch Sunart, Ardnamurchan offers some of Scotland’s most spectacular beaches. They remain uncrowded, even in summer, making them perfect for picnics, paddling, photography and peaceful walks.
Nature’s Playground
The peninsula is one of Scotland's richest wildlife habitats. Keep an eye out for golden eagles, red deer, pine martens, red squirrels, dolphins and otters. Pine martens are regular visitors to the Seashell - particularly if food is left out for them. There are many boat trips and land-based vantage points for those seeking wildlife during their stay. During the summer months we recommend a boat trip to Staffa & Fingal’s Cave where guests can watch the puffins nesting. These characterful birds never fail to entertain.
Iconic landmarks
Admire the romantic ruins of Castle Tioram, dramatically situated on its own tidal island. Visit the Glenfinnan Viaduct, perhaps best known for featuring in the original Harry Potter films. Take a day trip to Tobermory via a short ferry trip to see the colourful shops and eateries along the harbour-front. Take a boat trip with Staffa Tours to see the dramatic columns of Fingal’s Cave.
Food & Drink
Despite the remote nature of the area, we are lucky to have numerous places to eat and drink close by. The Natural History Visitor Centre with its cafe & gift shop and the Ardnamurchan Distillery with tours and tastings are both within walking distance of the house; while numerous pubs, restaurants and cafes are within 30 minutes drive. For fine dining, head to the dramatic Mingary Castle or the refined Kilcamb Lodge. Both offer award-winning dining and unique experiences.
